What does an investment tool established through federal tax law have to do with health? It’s a great question. As Vitalyst’s C.J. Eisenbarth Hager shares in a May 23 Health Affairs article, the answer lies in how Arizona makes the most of the “opportunity” part of Opportunity Zones.

Vitalyst has been focused on creating space for health-focused entities to advocate for partnership and long-term community benefits when developing new projects, with the goal of avoiding projects that have a potential for negative community health impact. Opportunity Zone funding could truly help communities. However, the work needs to start with inclusion of community voices, and both account for and emphasize community health and well-being.
