Vitalyst: What's In a Name?

The pursuit of our mission changed us over time – as any good journey should.
Our work expanded beyond health care. Our relationships, discoveries and learnings transformed us.
They crystallized an identity that went outside the lines originally created by the St. Luke’s name.

All too frequently we received calls asking for the emergency room or a St. Luke’s patient.
All too often we were asked what we were doing in a particular meeting –
‘and oh-by-the-way, how are things going over at the hospital?’
Twenty years after financially converting from the health system to an independent health foundation,
change was definitely due for our name.

Research revealed that St. Luke’s triggered perceptions of the local hospital system,
religious affiliation, charitable giving and health care.
It also crystallized that those who know us well viewed the foundation
as working toward the purpose of community

vitality

by consistently and effectively serving as a community health

catalyst

We brought those two words together to create our new name – an identity that we can own
today and well into our future. And so Vitalyst Health Foundation was born in March 2016.
